Selection panel
The group convened to choose an artist or artwork for a commission: typically artists, arts professionals, community members, and stakeholders from the site.
The panel's composition is the outcome's credibility. Practising artists and arts professionals should hold real votes, not advisory seats, because peer judgment is what the public and the field respect in the result. Community members bring what no résumé shows: whether a proposal understands the place.
Two pieces of hygiene keep panels defensible: publish the selection criteria in the call itself so applicants and panelists are reading from the same page, and resolve conflicts of interest before shortlisting, not after the scores are in.
